The Making of Kids’ Fashion Shoot

This year we tried something new with fashion - we did a kid's fashion shoot. We knew we could make it work (anyone a Tim Gunn fan?) but we also knew it would be a daunting project.

How would the kids do in front of the camera? How would we stop them from splashing in puddles in the merchandise we borrowed from stores all over the Eastside? What location would allow them to run around a little without getting dirty? How would we make them smile?

Brainstorming the shoot we did some research. What were the clothes the cool kids were wearing and how could we get our hands on the most darling outfits.

We started looking around and all of a sudden there was absolutely no question over whether Kids Fashion would happen. The tiny peacoats, the little pink hair bows, the leather jackets for a 7 year-old boy. Gahhh! It was all too cute.

Boxes of clothes would show up at the office and as we unpacked, we all gathered, eyebrows raised and mouths open, reaching for the miniature clothing.

“Oh my gosh, this is so cute! I want this in my size,” some would say.

But it was important to remember that with kids fashion, the pictures wouldn’t be all about the clothes. We had to find a way to make these three children models genuinely smile. We had to make it fun.

In downtown Issaquah, dodging the rolling clouds threatening to rain on our big day, pro photographer Jami Davis got out her camera and started taking photos. It was a great shoot and we all had a great time.
