Diane von Furstenberg is known for her simple yet elegant clothing that markets to a broad demographic. But beyond her creative taste she is a symbol of female empowerment who has built, and rebuilt, her business with confidence in her designs that have revolutionized fashion for women for decades. Tomorrow the fashion icon is coming to Bellevue.
In 1974 she created the versatile, stylish, affordable and comfortable wrap dress that many claim launched a liberating style movement for women worldwide. As the ultimate day to night fashion piece the wrap dress accentuates feminine curves while maintaining qualities of sophisticated business wear. According to her online biography, “By 1976 she had sold over a million of her signature dresses and landed on the cover of The Wall Street Journal and Newsweek, the latter dubbing her ‘the most marketable woman since Coco Chanel.’” The dress was a smashing hit until the 1980s when she lost control of her business. But instead of submitting to judgments that her fashion was a thing of the past she reinvented the wrap dress with even more velocity and thus staged one of the biggest comebacks in fashion.
At age 64, Furstenberg has shown no signs of slowing down. In fact, her business is only growing. On October 19th Furstenberg will introduce her signature scent “Diane” at Nordstrom Bellevue. The scent has been characterized as “the designer’s timeless style captured through fragrance.”
Furstenberg will be available for a meet and greet with fans starting at 2 and roughly ending around 4. In order to meet Diane a purchase of the fragrance is mandatory and she will also be available for autographs.
