A two-day film festival will be held at Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort in Leavenworth on March 23 and 24. The festival, presented in conjunction with Icicle Creek Center for the Arts, will feature five award-winning documentaries, each of which has been honored at other film festivals worldwide. All proceeds from the festival will benefit non-profit organizations, including Icicle Creek Youth Symphony, Icicle Creek Theatre Festival, YWCA of Wenatchee and more.
The first film will be Louder Than A Bomb, which follows the world’s largest youth poetry slam. A Q&A will be held afterwards with Lamar, teen poet and the star of the film. There will also be an opening night after party beginning at 10 p.m. Saturday’s line-up will kick off with Miss Representation at 11:30 a.m., a much-lauded film about the role mass media plays in the under-representation of women in positions of power.
This Way of Life will follow at 2 p.m., giving viewers an inside glimpse into the life of the Maori in New Zealand as seen by a European who was adopted into a Maori family. Wasteland will play at 4 p.m. This film tells the tale of artist Vik Muniz, who journeys from Brooklyn to the world’s largest garbage dump in Brazil, where he photographs people who create self-portraits out of garbage. The last film will be Buck at 7 p.m., which follows Buck Brannaman, a man who developed a new approach to horse-training after conquering his traumatic past of child abuse.
Tickets are available at icicle.org. Price ranges from $10 for one screening to $30 for a two-day pass. Visit www.sleepinglady.com or call 800.574.2123 to book accommodations.
