Don’t you hate the “puppy dog eyes” your canine best friend gives you as you head out the door on your way to work? This Friday, get a wagging tail instead because it’s Take Your Dog to Work Day! An international holiday, Take Your Dog to Work Day was started to encourage dog adoptions from shelters, rescue groups, and humane societies by showing off the bond between dogs and their humans to coworkers.
To celebrate this fun and charitable day, The Woodmark Hotel in Kirkland is holding an inaugural Take Your Dog to Work Day event that features fun activities for canines and humans alike. To encourage the altruistic aim of the day, the Seattle Humane Society’s mobile adoption bus will be on site and open for business for the event. In addition, there will be a “Leash-Free Lunch Time” that offers all of the pups a chance to safely run around and play, while their human companions can stop by a cookout to enjoy a hot dog or hamburger. After lunch, there will be a lakeside walk, guided by Woodmark Hotel’s own black lab, Woody Meg. All of the dog-friendly fun is free, except for lunch ($15), and offers canine friends a chance to romp and socialize while their owners relax and chat.
When you go, take lots of photos of you and your best friend having fun because there’s an all-day photo contest that can be entered via Twitter or email. Just be sure to hashtag “TYDTWD and #Woodmark, so that the judges can find your snapshots. The winner of the photo contest will win an overnight dog retreat at the hotel and be entered into the national Take Your Dog to Work Day photo contest. Not a bad way to spend a Friday, plus, you get to avoid the dreaded “puppy dog eyes,” and all for a good cause! Talk to your boss and encourage your coworkers to participate in this fun holiday.
