Ben, I agree with you. However in my experience how it works is these places such as 425 and best of Bellevue contact the businesses and they tell them they have won an award. Of course the businesses that gets roped in and pay are of course the businesses that seem to show up on the voting poles. I mean 425 wouldn’t be in business unless someone was footing the bill. They do sell their magazine but I don’t believe that generates all the revenue. It would be refreshing to see more small businesses get awards and gain some exposure. There are some great ones in 425. I was pleased however to see my Dr. Suh and my tailor Trillium win. Both are awesome establishments with great folks.

I think your decision to put companies in place of individuals is a big mistake. The larger facilities are always going to get more votes and win. I hope this was an over site and not a way of trying to generate more advertising dollars from those winners. I look forward to you returning the voting to how it had been done previously for professional categories.

Hi Ben. Our annual Best of 425 is strictly a reader poll. Our readers vote for their favorites, and we print the list for all to see. The voting is the same as it’s always been. If you have specific categories you’d like to see in our annual Best of 425 reader poll, please let us know. We’ll consider them for next year. Thank you for reading. -Ethan Chung, deputy editor.
