3 to See: Week of Aug. 22

It’s Officially State Fair Season

Summer may be winding down, but that means it is everyone’s favorite time of year — the Evergreen State Fair opens in Monroe on Aug. 22. This year’s theme is “Jam Packed Fun,” and there’s plenty to be had, from the grandstand concert series to daily great American duck races. Try your hand at axe-throwing, goat-milking or beekeeping, or kick back at one of the new beer and wine gardens. At 11 a.m. on opening day, pop by the historic Shannahan Cabin to commemorate its listing as the first building on the Snohomish County Register of Historic Places.

Bellevue Botanical Gardens Features 3D Artists

The flowerbeds and woodlands won’t be the only sights at Bellevue Botanical Gardens this weekend. This Saturday and Sunday at Arts in the Garden, you can peruse 3D art from 34 local artists. The event, presented by Bellevue Botanical Garden Society in partnership with Bellevue Parks & Community Services, will feature two full days of festivities, including food trucks, live music, and a garden pub.

Rock Out with the Rumba Kings

Round out your weekend with a performance by the Rumba Kings, presented by KNKX 88.5 FM. The nylon-guitar driven Latin quartet will present music from around the Mediterranean on Sunday night at the Kirkland Performance Center. The all-ages show starts at 7:30 p.m., with tickets starting at $31.50.
