3 to See: Week of May 9

Kenmore’s Waterfront Fair

Try your hand at some watersports this Saturday and experience for yourself why paddle boarding takes so much core strength. From noon to 3 p.m. on May 11, stop by Squire’s Landing Park for this free event (with the donation of a non-perishable food item) to paddle, canoe, kayak, and even partake in dragon boating. Life jackets will be provided, and afterward, you can walk or bike the Burke-Gilman Trail. More information about the Waterfront Fair can be found here.

A Fun Run to Benefit Girls’ Education

Last Year, Sophie Sharp, a student at St Thomas School in Medina, was so inspired by a trip to Rwanda with the Rwanda Girls Initiative that she decided to make her eighth-grade project a fun run 5K to support the local nonprofit. It was her first time organizing a 5K, and she ended up raising more than $20,000 for RGI, which supports girls’ education.

Now, as a ninth grader at Overlake School in Redmond, Sharp is organizing the event for a second year. The RGI 5K Fun Run takes place May 18 at Medina Park, and registration is currently open. Funds raised will benefit RGI, directly impacting the Gashora Girls Academy of Science and Technology, which aims to empower Rwandan girls with a rigorous academic education and leadership skills.

Mom’s Night Out at The Riveter

Moms only get one day a year when they’re truly revered by society for everything they do, so truly take advantage of it. Consider stopping by The Riveter Bellevue on May 10 to kick off Mother’s Day weekend. Connect with other moms, relax with a mini massage, sample products, and more! If you’re curious about Botox, Seattle Regenerative Medicine Center is providing $10 Botox. Admission is $10 and the event is from 6-8 p.m. Tickets and information can be found here.
