80 Years Down the Yellow Brick Road

The Wizard of Oz turns 80 this year, and this weekend, you can celebrate the technicolor classic. On Saturday, head to the Mercer Island County Library for a discussion about the movie that revolutionized the film industry and captured countless childhood imaginations. From 1-2:30 p.m., local film historian Lance Roads will bring the backstory behind the beloved film.

Renton City Comic Con

A gathering place for comic book lovers, techies, and nerds of all stripes, Renton City Comic Con will be held at the Renton Technical College campus over the weekend. Along with cosplay and celebrity visits, this year brings e-sports and Super Smash Bros tournaments into the mix. Ukranian Folk Festival

This weekend, the City of Bellevue and Seattle’s Honorary Consulate of Ukraine presents the 4th annual Northwest Ukranian Festival. From 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday at Bellevue’s Crossroad’s Park, you can get your fill of traditional food and drink and watch Ukrainian musicians and a vyshyvanka dress competition. The family-friendly event also will feature a bouncy house and a real trout fishing pond.

Crossing Kirkland

Kirkland’s annual block party spans three neighborhoods along the Cross Kirkland Corridor. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, you’ll find a mix of food trucks, games, and other surprises at three stations around the city.  Attendees can walk or bike or shuttle their way around the event. There also will be live music and a kid’s fun run.
