Visit Bellevue Washington, Bellevue’s destination marketing organization, recently showcased the results of its latest tourism efforts and provided a look into Bellevue’s future during the organization’s 2017 biennial Tourism Spotlight.
The event, which took place May 16 at Meydenbauer Center, provided attendees with a look at recent business and travel activity in the Bellevue area.
According to Visit Bellevue Washington, the city saw an increase in visitors up 14 percent in 2016 from 2015, with a 20 percent increase in overnight visitors and $762 million in visitor spending on everything from dining and entertainment, to shopping and outdoor recreation.
With corporate travel serving as a major driver for local tourism, Bellevue has responded with three new hotels — the W Bellevue, Hilton Garden Inn, and AC Hotel by Marriott — opening in summer 2017.
“We are excited by the growth of tourism in our corner of the world,” said Stacy Graven, executive director of Visit Bellevue Washington. “This biennial event is a great time to reconnect with fellow businesspeople in Bellevue and to discuss how we can make the city even more approachable and interesting to travelers near and far. The travel landscape is changing for everyone, and we want to ensure that Bellevue remains a welcoming and vibrant travel experience for all.”
In addition to these insights, the event also featured a keynote presentation from “the father of modern adventure travel,” Richard Bangs, and information about Bellevue’s Cup Away campaign, which encourages visitors to share their photos of Bellevue and the surrounding area on social media with a coffee cup and the hashtag #MyBellevue.
