When Tom O’Connor worked at Pike Place Market, he used to see executives come down from their office buildings to buy a piece of fruit or two, and he thought, “This could be a business.”
O’Connor started Market Fresh Fruit out of his apartment, and hand-selects the best fruit available for the week and delivers it to local businesses as a healthy snack option. The subscription service now has more than 130 local businesses as weekly members in Seattle and the Eastside.
Clients can choose from four plans that range in price depending on how many team members there are. The “seed” plan is $29 a week and provides 24 servings of three in-season fruit varieties for four to seven team members; the “mature” plan provides 80 to 82 servings of six in-season fruits for 26 to 65 team members for $89 a week.
Though a box of doughnuts might sound more intriguing than an apple, there’s something to be said for a fresh opal apple or concord pear hand-picked by O’Connor, who’s become a connoisseur of fruits. If you’re feeling skeptical, schedule a free office fruit-tasting with O’Connor, and you’ll likely change your mind. marketfreshfruit.com
