Redmond-based VALA, or Venues for Artists in the Local Area, is seeking two local artists to serve as their 2014 Artists in Residence (AIR). AIR, a program recently started by VALA in 2013, provides local artists with the opportunity to create unique projects that promote a sense of community within the Eastside.
Local artists are encouraged to apply by submitting their resume, an artist statement, a letter of intent, professional references, and a collection of digital images displaying examples of current projects and pieces, no later than Friday, Jan. 17, 2014. Applicants selected during phase one will go on to participate in a final interview, in which they will present a formal proposal regarding their project idea. The two candidates selected for the program will individually be awarded $1,000 to each develop a project that, “creates a strong connection to the local community.” Artists interested in applying or finding out more about AIR, can visit VALA’s website for application guidelines and additional information.
VALA, which was founded in 2010 by by Jessica and John Lambert, is a non-profit venue committed to strengthening the community through art. With a mission of, “connecting artists to artists, artists to the community and the community to art,” VALA enriches the Eastside community by serving as a cultural hub for the arts. But, visitors of VALA will enjoy so much more than just creative displays and public art installations created by local artists – workshops and special events provide the community with an assortment of interactive and artful experiences to grow their own individual creative skills.
