Now that I have your attention with “firefighters” from the headline, make time in your busy schedule to get to Z’Tejas Southwestern Grill at Bellevue Square sometime this month to participate in Chile Fest, the restaurant’s annual celebration that pays tribute to the harvest of the chilies in Hatch, New Mexico. Until Sept. 23, Z’Tejas will offer a special menu full of hot hot heat to support the the Bellevue Firefighters Community Support Foundation. Whenever you purchase an entree from this special menu, the restaurant will donate $1 to BFCSF. It’s a win-win if you like spice AND want help this worthy organization, which helps firefighters, their families and the public at large.
Chile Fest kicked off in a big way. Local firefighters waited tables on Sept. 5, with all of their gratuities going to BFCSF. The night also included the Chile Onion Eating Relay, where a team of local firefighters battled some spice loving local foodies, including yours truly. The firefighters outlasted team foodie, winning the relay and the $300 prize donated to BFCSF in their names.
Team foodie included Erin Thomas (@erindrinkswine), editor for Sip Northwest Magazine and a regular contributor to SEATTLEITE Magazine, WINO Magazine and CitySearch Seattle; Chris Nishiwaki (@chrisnishiwaki), freelance food and wine writer and Cork Dork Columnist on Bellevue’s Patch.com; and me.
Be sure to head to the restaurant this month to support BFCSF.
