Chef John Howie Donates 950 Thanksgiving Meals to Local Nonprofits

As a result of Chef Howie’s Pay-It-Forward Thanksgiving meals program, 950 Thanksgiving meals will be provided to Hopelink and the Northshore Senior Center from Seastar Restaurant & Raw Bar in Bellevue and Beardslee Public House in Bothell.

For the past 17 Thanksgivings, Howie has closed Seastar Restaurant & Raw Bar for regular dining and opened it up to host a full three-course fine dining feast at no cost for more than 650 underprivileged guests. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Howie had to cancel his longtime Thanksgiving tradition but he is determined to provide holiday meals to local neighbors in need.

For every Thanksgiving family meal purchased from Seastar Restaurant, an identical family meal will be donated to Hopelink for families in emergency shelter and transitional housing units. For every two Thanksgiving meals purchased from Beardslee Public House, one complete family meal will be donated to the Northshore Senior Center in Bothell.

“Although the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cancellation of my longtime community Thanksgiving event at Seastar Restaurant, the need is still great — if not greater than in years past — and I want to make sure everyone is still able to enjoy a special and delicious Thanksgiving meal,” Howie said in a press release. “I will sincerely miss seeing and visiting with those who normally come to Seastar but I hope the Hopelink and Northshore Senior Center recipients know their meal was prepared with the same care and love as always on this holiday.”

This brings the total number of meals prepared and delivered by the John Howie Restaurant group to nearly 10,000 for healthcare workers, first responders, and individuals/families in need since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March.
