Custom-Made for Men

Q&A with Annette Dresser of J.Hilburn

J.Hilburn launched more than a decade ago with one mission: to guarantee fit and eliminate unnecessary markups in menswear. Today, the men’s lifestyle brand continues to deliver on that promise, offering men a true custom-made experience. To learn more about the latest in men’s fashion and the recent opening of its Bellevue Showroom, 425 caught up with Annette Dresser, executive partner and personal stylist.

425: Bellevue Fashion Week recently came to a close. What were some of the hottest trends in male fashion you spotted on the runway?

Dresser: The hi-low, sophisticated casual trend is very important. This is a relaxed yet refined look. Hi-low is pairing a soft constructed or deconstructed sport coat with a casual bottom, dark denim being the most common. Deconstructed jackets are very important this season, worn with knits, woven shirts, dark denim, or casual slimmer-leg pants. The deconstructed jacket has a casual, put-together look for many professional and social occasions.

425: As we ring in the new year, what top trends in men’s fashion do you think will take over 2019? What are you most excited about?

Dresser: I’m most excited that J.Hilburn will continue to offer 11 custom categories for men’s professional, social, and casual needs. We ask a few profile questions, measure men in 10 minutes, then help them select complete looks for their wardrobe and lifestyle. All of our fabrics are from the best Italian mills in Northern Italy. We deliver a custom shirt within two weeks and suiting in approximately three weeks — the fastest in the industry. I’m excited that we will also continue to focus on the needs of the millennial customer and our expanded casual offering 24/7, 365 days a year. This is refined casual so [it] is very versatile for many lifestyles. I’m excited to show men how to wear a suit three ways: as a full suit, with a casual pant for evening, or layered with a sweater on a cold day. A pant also can be worn many ways, with an outerwear jacket or vest, with a deconstructed jacket or sweater with a great shirt.

425: J.Hilburn is celebrating the 1 year anniversary of the Bellevue showroom. Tell us more about this location and why Bellevue is an ideal fit for the brand.

Dresser: J.Hilburn partnered with Weldon Barber one-year ago to offer the Bellevue community of men services from head to toe, right on Old Main Street. We have the same philosophy as Weldon, to give the best service possible and make men look and feel great. Bellevue was ideal because we already had a loyal clientele, and the community is growing so much. It is great to have a beautiful showroom where we can meet gentlemen in a quiet environment and take care of their wardrobe needs. They really like being able to see our newest collection each season in addition to our essentials.
