Just in time for fall harvest, Double Canyon opened its new winemaking facility and future tasting room in West Richland. Part of the Crimson Wine Group out of Napa, Double Canyon was created in 2007 with the goal of producing benchmark Washington Cabernet Sauvignon. The Double Canyon vineyards are located in the Horse Heaven Hills, just a stone’s throw from some of the state’s most prestigious vineyards, like Phinney Hill and Champoux.
Winemaker Kate Michaud, who joined the company during the bottling of the 2016 vintage, says, “I’m eager to start work on this inaugural 2017 vintage, crafted within our own walls, and to get creative and explore how this new facility will propel us forward in our goal of producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon.”
The facility has capacity for about 50,000 cases per year, though the winery is currently producing about half that amount. Past vintages of Double Canyon wines exhibit fruit-forward characteristics with soft integrated tannins.
