Get Back in the Groove

If you don’t subscribe to the ‘new year, new me’ mantra, but you’re wanting to shift some of your priorities toward health, there are plenty of local fitness centers and studios to help. Find what brings you joy and makes you feel good, whether it’s kickboxing or Bollywood dancing.

Tone and Sculpt with Barre Rev

Barre classes — a blend of ballet, Pilates, and yoga — are sweeping the nation, with light-filled studios popping up. Mix up your exercise routine with a class at Barre Rev on Mercer Island. You’ll be shocked how difficult it is: Small movements zero in on specific muscles you’re not used to moving. The workout can improve postural strength, boost metabolism, and build lean muscle.

Bring the kids to PRO Club

PRO Club in Bellevue, Redmond and Seattle will have the whole family working up a sweat and having fun, too. They offer sports like squash, tennis, racquetball and more. The group fitness classes are popular and effective. And there are plenty to keep your mind and muscles challenged. We are loving everything TRX right now.

Recenter at Alive & Shine

Readers have voted Alive & Shine Center in Bellevue their favorite yoga studio in our annual Best of 425 contest many times. The Indian family-owned, authentic yoga, meditation, and lifestyle center opened in 1992 and offers classes, workshops and teacher training.

Pump Up Your Fitness at TruFusion

If Russell Wilson has signed on, you know it’s good. Our favorite NFL quarterback is a co-owner of TruFusion fitness studio in Bellevue, a national franchise that put down roots in Washington earlier this year. The 10,000-square-foot studio in Lincoln Square South offers a blend of fitness classes, from kettlebell to boxing to yoga — some of which are hosted in a multihued, heated room reminiscent of a trendy (sweaty) nightclub. The atmosphere will sure get you jazzed about working out.

Dance Your Way to A Better You at BollyWorks

You might already be familiar with Bollywood-style dancing from India, but you can learn the dance yourself at this Redmond-based studio. Owner Arundhati Baitmangalkar opened the studio after moving to Redmond from India, where she was a professional dancer and instructor with the country’s biggest Bollywood dance company. No dance or fitness knowledge is required. Just show up, and have a good time.

Build More Upper-Body Strength at Life Time

This fitness studio in downtown Bellevue has myriad classes, but one that stands out is Upper Rx, a group workout class that zeroes in on your arms, chest, and back. It incorporates a little cardio and flexibility work with strength training using free-standing equipment, like dumbbells, kettlebells, barbells, and resistance bands. Tap into your upper body, and expand your range of motion with this class.

Join the SoulCycle Craze

SoulCycle has become a favorite, with energetic classes that draw people in and keep them coming back for more. In fact, one of the instructors, Earl C. Benjamin, was nominated for our sister publication’s 30 Under 30 award in 2018 for his ability to rally class members as a whole, while elevating people on an individual basis. Book a bike, and we’re betting you’ll be hooked, too.

Strike a New Balance at JabX Kickboxing Fitness

Kickboxing is such an empowering workout, and the community of people involved is inclusive. Give this total body workout a try at the JabX Kickboxing studio in Bellevue. The fat-melting workouts can have you burning up to 800 calories a session.
