In the Name of Love

Just when you think the dust has settled from the holidays, it’s Valentine’s Day, and everything turns a shade of pink for a month. Whether you’re romantically attached or not, any excuse is a good excuse to go out and have some fun. Here’s a little local inspiration.

To Play

Bellevue Botanical Garden: Rain or shine, this is a lovely getaway for a late winter stroll. Stop by the onsite Copper Kettle Coffee Bar before hitting the paved path. Bellevue

Marymoor Park: Known locally as “doggy Disneyland,” the Marymoor off-leash dog park will arguably be the most joyful locale on Valentine’s Day. Walk the 40-acre area, and pet all the pups. Redmond

Matthews Winery: Unwind in the intimate, farmhouse-chic setting of the Matthews Winery tasting room. We adore the 2015 Matthews Claret. Woodinville

Roller Skating at Southgate Roller Rink: You’ll have middle school flashbacks as you and your better half zip around the ring to old-school hits. Check the online schedule for themed and 21-and-over nights. Seattle

Serial Events: Link up with a few of your favorite couples or some friends and put your relationships to the test for this escape room experience that relies on intellectual cleverness. Bellevue

Village Theatre: It seems fitting that I Do! I Do! is running during the month of February at Village Theatre. The musical chronicles 50 years of love between two people in this Broadway favorite. Issaquah

Virtual Reality Arcades: Give your valentine an experience that’s out-of-this-world. A handful of VR arcades have popped up around the Eastside, including Odyssey VR and VRstudios in Redmond and Portal in Bellevue. Redmond and Bellevue

To Indulge

Bottle and Bull: What’s more poetic and romantic than an Ernest Hemingway-themed restaurant that transports diners to the writer’s favorite cities with food and drink as the vehicle? Kirkland

Din Tai Fung: If you’ve yet to experience this Taiwanese gem, take your favorite someone and order a few dishes to share. The steamed dumplings are a must, and the fried rice is unbelievable. Bellevue, Seattle, and Tukwila

JaK’s Grill: The steak is where it’s at with a variety of cuts that are aged for a minimum of 28 days. We’ll cheers to that. Issaquah and Seattle

Matts’ Rotisserie & Oyster Lounge: The oysters are delivered fresh daily, so order them on the half-shell and see whether they truly are an aphrodisiac. Redmond

Purple Café and Wine Bar: The chairs are heavy, the wine bar is Instagram-able, and the lobster mac and cheese is better than any love affair you’ll ever have. Various locations

Revolve Food & Wine: Health and wellness are at the heart of Revolve, having been founded by a local chiropractor. Enjoy the ambience and a glass of wine with a pair of divine dishes that will leave you satisfied. Bothell

Sugar Factory: Maybe this pick is too obvious, but it’s not really Valentine’s Day unless a lavish dessert is had. Who knows, maybe you’ll get seated next to one its A-list endorsers? Bellevue

Red Wine and Chocolate Tasting: Need we say more? Head to Lake Chelan Wine Valley and indulge in the two best things ever invented with your sweetie, or your gals, on the second and third weekends in February. Then bundle up and head to Yoga Chelan for a “snowga” lesson. Greater Lake Chelan
