For the first time ever, The Bellevue Collection hosted the Independent Designer Fashion Show, a presentation of looks created by local designers, as part of Bellevue Fashion Week. A panel of experts in the local fashion industry carefully decided which designers to include through a competitive selection process. The final ten designers selected were Ampersand As Apostrophe by Jessica Park, Built For Man by Francisco Hernandez, Masha Osoianu Design by Masha Osoianu, Carole McClellan by Carole McClellan, KateS Mensah by Kathy Sabin-Mensah, Anne Sylvain by Patricia Raskin, Bd Homme by Banchong Douangphrachanh, Olga Szwed by Olga Szwed and Lisa Vian Hunter and Lizzie Parker from the NBC show Fashion Stars.

Carole McClellan (see her design featured to the left) was the winner of the show and received $5,000 in Fashion Funds to help build her business. The Bellevue Collection, Fashion Group International Seattle Chapter and Femfessionals in Seattle donated her prize. “I am speechless.  I am so honored and thank everyone for this wonderful experience,” said McClellan accepting her award.

The point of the show was not just to broadcast local talent to a sold out audience but connect local designers with industry leaders and buyers.

“Creating this fabulous opportunity for local designers to compete and show their point of view was a natural next step [of Bellevue Fashion Week]. We have an opportunity to assist the growth of the fashion offering in the market and to extend our helping hand to an industry that is so important to our company and community, ” said Jennifer Leavitt, VP of Marketing for The Bellevue Collection.
