The King County Library System opened its first ideaX Makerspace in Bellevue last April for hands-on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art/design, and math) activities. It was well-received within the community, drawing more than 900 people since it opened. Thanks, in part, to an $80,000 grant from Boeing, it has the ability to open a second space. KCLS will offer a dedicated ideaX location at the Federal Way Regional Library. The additional ideaX Makerspace will provide access for more people to experience virtual reality, 3D printing, programmable sewing machines, and more.
“We are honored and thrilled that the KCLS Foundation has been awarded this generous grant from Boeing,” said Lisa Rosenblum, KCLS executive director. “Boeing is known for innovation and leading-edge technology. This funding recognizes our own efforts to promote innovative thinking, and to ensure that STEAM learning is more widely available and accessible.”
