This year, Columbia Winery celebrates its 55th year – one of Washington State’s original wineries. They recently updated the label from its previous large “C” to an ephemeral misty mountain vignette. “We think this new look captures the Washington State that our wines embody,” says winemaker Sean Hails. Beautiful to look at and easy to drink – especially at these price points!
Columbia Winery Red Blend NV
(Columbia Valley; $14)
Nearly an equal blend of Merlot and Syrah with a few other varietals in the mix, this ruby red wine is fruit-forward with blackberry, black currants, and some red cherry. On the palate, subtle spices like black pepper and cloves are caressed by soft tannins and a pleasing finish.
Columbia Winery Merlot 2014
(Columbia Valley; $16)
This deep purple wine is redolent with plum and warm baking spices followed by dark cherries, milk chocolate, and vanilla imparted by oak barrels. Its long finish hints of raspberries. Pair with hearty bowl of beef bourguignon or a flank steak with Italian-seasoned marinade.
