In the Northwest, we take our coffee seriously. In April, the Specialty Coffee Association of America hosted the 27th annual event and World Barista Championship at the Washington State Convention Center. With over 10,000 total guests in attendance, Eastsiders and coffee enthusiasts from around the world, including coffee professionals from more than 75 countries, gathered to taste, learn, and experience all things coffee. The event focused on specialty coffee, sustaining the industry and farmer’s livelihoods. It also featured trends and products in the coffee marketplace. The event was packed with growers, roasters, retailers, distributors, culinary professionals and other experts and enthusiasts. 425 Magazine staff photographer Rachel Coward and photographer Parker Miles Blohm photographed the expo and the World Barista Championship, where Australian barista Sasa Sestic was named the Champion, followed by United States barista Charles Babinski, who placed second.
