Make Your Own Bloody Mary Mix
Makes 1 quart
2 to 3 celery stalks
3 tablespoons cold water
3 cups low-sodium tomato vegetable juice
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 to 2 tablespoons hot sauce
1 lemon, juiced and zested
2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
.25 teaspoon celery seeds or salt
.25 teaspoon turmeric
Salt and pepper to taste
First, celery juice will have to be prepared. Use a juicer, or blend celery stalks in your blender with cold water. Strain the mixture to get the celery juice you’ll need for the mix. Depending on the celery’s water content, this will yield about a half cup. Combine with all remaining ingredients in a quart-sized jar.
This mixture is best when enjoyed within three days of preparation. Store in the refrigerator at all times. Mix with ice and 1 ounce vodka per 8 ounces of mix for an incredible Bloody Mary, or enjoy as is for a morning pick-me-up (minus the vodka).
Garnish options: Olives, bacon, shrimp or crab, pepperoncini, jalapeños, bell pepper slices, celery stalks (or go crazy with a mini grilled cheese, slider, or whatever else sounds good with tomato).
