Chef John Howie’s restaurants are donating $1 from the sale of each Go Red specialty cocktail that they will be offering in February to the American Heart Association, in honor of their month-long awareness campaign focused on heart disease and its impact on women. In May of 2019, a team that included Chef Howie; his wife, Debbie; and Shannon Lodahl, wife of general manager Tim Lodahl, traveled to Kentucky to develop a blend of whiskey that would be called “The Wives Barrel,” which would be used for signature cocktails benefiting worthy causes. Tim Lodahl, who has curated the restaurant group’s impressive whiskey menus, explains how they started at the Jim Beam Distillery: “We selected one each of Knob Creek Bourbon and Rye Single Barrel. Three barrels were selected for us from their master distiller. Then we went to Maker’s Mark Distillery.” This mak
es The Wives Barrel an exclusive, one-of a-kind blend, and the American Heart Association’s Go Red campaign is a fine reason to lift a glass. Cocktails available at John Howie Steak, Seastar Restaurant & Raw Bar, and Beardslee House: chefjohnhowie.com.
