There’s a new variety of apple to get acquainted with – meet Rave. A hybrid of Honeycrisp and the MonArk variety, it’s a combination of Honeycrisp’s juicy, refreshing sweetness with the early ripening time of the MonArk, an apple prized for its firm texture, ideal for baking. Taking two decades to develop by the University of Minnesota, and working with Stemilt Growers in Wenatchee, the Rave has gone national. Rave’s short but sweet season gets an early start in August, and into September, offering an early taste of Honeycrisp along with a crispness that lends itself so well to snacking or cooking.
