Mix It Up
Arlis Ceretti, Woodmark Hotel’s food and beverage director, is sharing a specialty drink recipe that’s made extra swoon-worthy with a simple, homemade rose syrup.
HOMEMADE ROSE SYRUP
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 ounce dried rose petals (available at specialty markets, tea shops, or online; look for “edible” to make sure they’ve been preserved for food quality use)
Add the sugar, water, and most of the rose petals (save a few for garnish later) to a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Bring to a boil. Allow syrup to cool, then strain and pour into a glass jar, and seal tightly with a lid.
THE WOODMARK’S RED ROSE VALENTINE’S DAY COCKTAIL
- 1 1/2 ounces vodka
- 3/4 ounce rose syrup
- 1/2 ounce lemon juice
- 2 dashes of aromatic bitters
- 3 ounces Woodmark Brut or any rosé sparkling wine
- Dried rose petals
Combine vodka, rose syrup, lemon juice, and bitters, into a cocktail shaker. Add ice, stir for 20 to 30 seconds, and strain into a sugared-rim martini glass. Top with sparkling wine, and garnish with dried edible rose petals.
