The air is getting crisp, the apples are ready to be picked, and warm and comforting food is what you crave. Apple butter to the rescue. Your house is going to smell like an apple cinnamon candle was burning. This is so easy; let’s get to slow cooking!
Slow Cooker Apple Butter
Prep time 20 minutes
Cook time 8–10 hours
- 3 pounds tart apples, such as Pink Lady or Granny Smith, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1 48-ounce container unsweetened applesauce
- 2 cups muscavado sugar (dark brown subs great)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ cup water
Set slow cooker to low heat. Peel, core, and chop apples. Combine all ingredients into the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for a minimum of 8 hours. Once apples are tender, use an immersion blender to mix to a smooth consistency.
Pour the apple butter into jars, and serve with pork chops, soft bread and butter, or on pancakes and buttered toast. Or straight from the spoon. No judgments!
