Star Wars Takes Over Gingerbread Village

Feel the force of the holidays at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel.

Hey Jedi Masters. Want to celebrate the holidays in true Star Wars galaxy fashion?  The Sheraton Seattle Hotel is hosting its Annual Gingerbread Village with the special cinematic theme of May The Holidays Be With You. Scenes from the Star Wars movies are replicated using gingerbread and sugary treats. The displays will be on view through Jan. 6, 2016. Donations are being accepted for the Northwest Chapter of JDRF. Over the past two decades, the Gingerbread Village has raised more than $756,000 for the organization. So far, this year’s donations are up by 40 percent.

Since 1992, the Sheraton’s expert culinary team has partnered with local architecture firms to design and build intricate, holiday-themed gingerbread displays. Featured architects include CallisonRTKL & Hargis, Skanska, Bailly & Bailly, 4D Architects, Master Builders/Gelotte Hommas, and MG2.

The hotel staff donates more than 1,000 volunteer hours for this event and the displays use an estimated 500 lbs. of dough, 600 lbs. of sugar, 180 lbs. of egg whites, 160 lbs. of and rice cereal treats, 4 gallons of molasses, and hundreds of pounds of candy to create the gingerbread displays.
