The List: Cynthia Breen

Sales and Marketing at W Hotel and Westin Hotel

Cynthia Breen serves as the complex director of sales and marketing for the W Hotel and the Westin Hotel in Bellevue.

Breen’s 15-plus-year career in sales and marketing has played a part in the growing success of both hotels, especially the now-four-year-old W.

Though the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown the hospitality industry, among others, for a loop, Breen and the team at W Hotel have worked tirelessly to keep staff and visitors safe. Breen says she’s looking forward to inviting even more guests back to the properties as regulations allow.

Q&A

HOW HAS THE W CHANGED OR EVOLVED SINCE ITS BEGINNING?

When we opened in summer 2017, Bellevue was aching for a lively and hip neighborhood bar, and we quickly became the go-to weekend spot with lines out the door. During the pandemic, we had to close the Living Room Bar, but I am so happy we have had the opportunity to reopen The Porch and Living Room Bar to welcome our community back, albeit in much smaller numbers, but guests are having so much fun.

WHAT’S BEEN THE MOST REWARDING ASPECT OF BEING WITH THE W?

It has been an incredible honor over the past year to work alongside our talent to keep guests and each other safe while being open during the pandemic. The team is all in and continuously impresses me with their ability to bring the W core values to life each day, despite having fewer associates and resources. They are crushing it.

WHAT HAS BROUGHT YOU JOY RECENTLY?

Driving in my car with my almost-20-year-old daughter, singing at the top of our lungs while exploring the world around us.
