Try Berries, Beans & BBQ Sauce Flavored Ice Cream

When you think about long summer days and camping, what kind of food comes to mind? S’mores, buttermilk pancakes with a side of bacon and eggs? Maybe slow-cooked barbecue beans, or skillet cornbread with butter?

Well Salt & Straw has taken all that nostalgia and then some and churned it into unique ice cream flavors that will have you dreaming about crackling campfires and tall trees. The Seattle ice cream company debuted their limited-edition Pendleton Pints and a portion of the proceeds from pints and scoops will benefit the National Park Foundation. You can try the unique flavors through June 27 at the Ballard and Capitol Hill locations. The delicious fundraiser is a joint partnership with cozy Oregon-based maker Pendleton Woolen Mills.

“This camping series dives right into our memories from childhood, all piled in a van, spending our summer nights around the campfire with friends and family,” said Salt & Straw’s CEO and co-founder, Kim Malek. “Mother Nature seems to bring out our best selves and so we are proud to support the work of the National Parks Foundation with this series. Our parks are such a treasure and great reminder of what’s most important.”

Five Campsite-Inspired Ice Cream Flavors to Try

Skillet Cornbread w/ Candied Nettles & Pine Nuts (Seattle exclusive)

Reminiscent of hot cornbread batter spattering onto a butter-slicked cast-iron skillet. Salt & Straw turned it into a savory brown-butter cornbread ice cream interposed with crunchy pine nut nettle brittle. The nettles were foraged from Issaquah!

Campfire S’mores

As if the chocolate and smoky toasted marshmallow fluff wasn’t enough, they brought the crackle from the fire to the mix in the form of graham cracker crunch that pops like that popular candy.

Buttermilk Pancakes, Bacon & Eggs

Maple praline bacon bits swim in a buttery, custardy pancake flavored ice cream with ribbons of “sunny” caramel sauce. One taste and you’ll hear birds sing.

Mushroom Muddy Buddies

Everyone know camping involves lots of snacks, like those homemade peanut-butter and chocolate-coated Chex cereal also known as Muddy Buddies. Move over Ziploc bag! Sprinkle some Buddies into a mushroom, candied honey butter, and sherry ice cream and let your taste buds feel sophisticated, earthy, and childlike all at once.

Berries, Beans, & BBQ Sauce (vegan)

Molasses baked bean ganache is swirled with strawberry barbecue sauce and mixed with a dairy-free raspberry and blackberry ice cream for a flavor you didn’t know you wanted until you tried it. Yep, Salt & Straw does it again!
