Orcas Island is a Pacific Northwest treasure, but don’t just take our word for it. The island, which is the largest within the San Juan Islands, is No. 33 on The New York Times’ list “52 Places to Go in 2019.”
According to the article, the island “has gained fame in recent years for its impressive tide-to-table culinary scene and experimental wines, attracting among others, Oprah Winfrey.” The article calls out Doe Bay Wine Company and James Beard-nominated chef Jay Blackinton, owner of Hogstone, among the premier dining options. Of course, there’s also the unbridled beauty of the island, with an abundance of hiking trails.
Puerto Rico snagged the No. 1 place to visit in the new year due to performances of Hamilton and a new entertainment complex currently under construction.
The San Juans last earned attention in the annual list in 2011, when they received the No. 2 spot.
