Each year, more than 1,600 staff members representing more than 500 distilleries from 44 states and 15 countries gather at a 4-day craft spirits competition and conference hosted by The American Distilling Institute. For the last two years, the Woodinville Whiskey Company has been one of those distilleries.
The institute accepts all classes and categories of craft spirit entries to be tasted blindly and evaluated by a panel of judges that include other distillers, journalists, bar owners, bartenders, retailers, wholesalers, distributors, and importers.
After the inaugural release of their Flagship Straight Bourbon Whiskey in late 2015, Woodinville Whiskey took home the 2016 Whiskey of the Year award, the highest honor given.
This year, Woodinville Whiskey debuted inaugural release of their Flagship Straight Rye Whiskey at the competition. The Whiskey not only took home the title of Best Rye Whiskey, but also the coveted Double Gold Medal. This award is only given to the best 10 of the 802 entrants and it is only awarded if every member of the panel recommend a gold medal.
“For our two flagship products to be awarded in such a way against so many other incredible craft whiskies is truly an honor,” Woodinville Whiskey co-founder Orlin Sorensen said in a statement. “When we set out on this journey almost 8 years ago our mission statement was to create the greatest craft whiskey possible. That continues to be our mission and something we live by every day.”
