West Coast-based Tougher is on a mission to serve hardworking women in farms, factories, shops, and gardens all over the country with its work wear made for women, by women. It’s now one step closer, as it recently celebrated a successful Kickstarter campaign and expansion into retail. The brand announced in September that its campaign surpassed its original goal of $12,000 on its sixth day, raising more than $20,000 with 219 backers. While the bulk of the company’s orders continues to originate online, Tougher has expanded into retail locations around Oregon, including Coastal Farm & Ranch in Albany, Les Newman’s in Bend, Shonnard’s Nursery in Corvallis, Coastal Farm & Ranch in Eugene, and Naomi’s Organic Farm Supply in Portland. To fill a marketplace gap in women’s work wear, founder and CEO Stacey Gose left a 10-year career in healthcare to complete her MBA from the University of Oregon and, in 2015, launched Tougher. According to the company, “Response among customers has been overwhelmingly positive, with a return rate of just 0.005 percent, versus the retail average of 20 to 30 percent.” tougher.com
